Abstract :
The purpose of this study was to determine knowledge of homosexuality and attitudes toward lesbians and gay men; and to examine relationship among knowledge of homosexuality, attitudes toward lesbians and gay men and religiosity level of physical education majors. In total, 169 students (MAge= 22.10±2.37), of which 78 were females (MAge= 21.90±2.55) and 91 were males (MAge= 22.27±2.22), at Physical Education Teacher Education department took part in the study. The Attitudes toward Lesbians and Gay Men Scale-ATLG, Knowledge about Homosexuality Questionnaire-KAH, and Religiosity Scale-RS were used to collect data. Results showed no significant difference in terms of attitudes toward lesbians, gay men, knowledge about homosexuality and religiosity level based on the students’ gender. On the other hand, there was a significant positive correlation between attitudes toward gey men and attitudes toward lesbians; and also between attitudes toward lesbians and gay men. However, negative correlation found between between attitudes toward gey men and religiosity level. In addition, there were significant correlations between attitudes toward lesbians and attitudes toward lesbians and gay men. Significant negative correlation was found between attitudes toward lesbians and gay men and religiosity level. Conversely, statistically no significant overall relationship was found among knowledge of homosexuality, attitudes toward lesbians, gay men and lesbians and gay men, and religiosity level.
