Abstract :
Earliest coins found in the excavations during 1999-2002 in Lagina Hecate Sacred area and the graves around it date to Classical Period; however, Hellenistic Period coins keep majority in number, which supports that the sacred area had been an important cult center. Coins found show that the sacred area had also been used in Roman Period and Early Byzantine Period. In the Hellenistic Period especially Stratoniceia coins were widely used. This was because the area had been enlarged, planned, opened to new settlements and its political system had been reorganized by Seleucos family in 3rd Century BC and Lagina became the religious center of Stratoniceia. Also the coins of Alexander the Great and those of his successors, and the coins of important cities like Alabanda, Bargylia, Rhodos, Ephesos, Miletos found show that Lagina had been accepted as an important cult center for these cities.
