Abstract
Evliyâ Çelebi’s travelbook is not only an important for Ottoman history in general but also for biographies of seventeenth century bureaucrats. This article investigates the life of a well-known figure of that century, Seydi Ahmed Pasha according to Evliyâ Çelebi. Pasha who was educated in the palace was a hero of his time served as governor, governor-general and vizier. He also participated in wars, conquered fortresses. However, he also had a cruel dimension in his personality that he oppressed the subjects of the region that he governed. He aimed the rank of grand-viziership and his struggle with Köprülü Mehmed Paşa to this end prepared his own end. Finally he was executed in 1661 with the order of the Sultan.
