PAINTED PHRYGIAN POTTERY OF SEYITOMER HOYUK
Abstract :
160 meters in diameter and 23.5 meters in height, the Seyitomer Hoyuk is a large mound 25 kms Northwest of the city of Kutahya. It is located within the bounds of a strip-mining company, the Seyitomer Lignite Works. Though the Phrygian pottery in-situ condition found in the room outside the fortification; inside the influence of 5th and 4th cencury B.C was observed. The architectural elements are almost completely destroyed because of leveling the top of Hoyuk. Because of this devastation, the mixed material found there was not regarded to any architectural style. The Phrygian pottery of Seyitomer Hoyuk consists of two groups as painted and monochrome. Painted pottery formed as Trefoil Jugs and Dinos. Unfortunately the samples of pottery found in Seyitomer Hoyuk could not be regarded to any architectural theme and could not be given definite dates but once compared with Phrygian pottery, could not be denied that reflecting. Century B.C Phrygian era till Persians.
