  • Abstract
Truth by Zola and Green Night by Guntekin are novels based on teachers and clergymen, who have an important role in the society. In both novels, characters that give harm and are unfair are usually clergymen, while teachers fight for people who are exposed to and suffer from unfair treatment. In addition, as opposed to corrupted, intolerant, nonprogressive priests, Zola also describes conscientious clergymen who have values, with respect to different beliefs and ideas. But, Guntekin adopts a dissimilar approach and introduces all clergymen as corrupted, intolerant and nonprogressive. On one hand, they praise idealist teachers who make an effort to raise freethinking, tolerant, honest generations that are open to scientific facts and are fair. On the other hand, they criticize selfish teachers who do not act as their job requires, are driven by the demands of certain powers to achieve personal benefits and are unaware of their responsibilities.
