Abstract :
Modernity, which comprehends the world by its unique methods and perception of forms and which effects the thought deeply by its values and intentions, is generally associated with Cartesian Philosophy throughout the history of thought. Within this case, as a reflection of this relation, the machine world notion emerges as a metaphor which describes both Cartesian Philosophy and Modern age. The machine world notion makes a reference to the regularity and determinism. Modern subject, as the carrier of this thought, manifests the same regularity in the comprehension of place and embodies the perception of order as a cultural code in the city. The purpose of this study is to show how the thought of “order”, which comes out with the modern age, encounters with the city which is the carrier and extension of social sphere as a result of a reflection to the social world in which the subject finds itself or to the social sphere from the world of nature.
