Abstract :
Previous researches focused on burnout in the context of higher education institutions have shown that instructors work in it represent a group of sensitive to burnout. Recently in the number of papers that bring up the importance of personality structure in the disposition to burnout tendency has increased. In this sense, the objective of this study was to examine the dimensions of instructors’ personality have differential effects on the 3 sub-components of burnout (emotional exhaustion, depersonalization and diminished personal accomplishment). The population of the study consisted of 88 instructors in a vocational schools of a state university. These instructors completed the Maslach Burnout Inventory, Neo-Five Factor Inventory (NEO-FFI) and Demographic Information Form. The results of the corelation analyses showed that extraversion, emotional stability, conscientiousness, agreeableness and openess to experience personality dimensions do significantly and differentially impact the experience of the sub-components of burnout. These results are discussed from the view of interaction between disposition variables and teaching environment.
