Abstract
This study aims to assess the direct impacts of humanitarian organizations institutional capabilities on disaster-oriented competencies, to assess the direct impact of the disaster-oriented competencies on disaster management performance, and thus to develop a model to investigate the antecedents of disaster management performance. The data used in this research were carried out in a sample of 294 professionals working at the 14 humanitarian aid organizations in Turkey. The results exposed that institutional capabilities and disaster-oriented competencies were positively related, further disaster-oriented competencies were also positively related with the antecedents of disaster management performance. Inter-organizational cooperation was perceived as one of the most important factor in a comprehensive disaster management and the success of the management was found to be linked to this key factor. In addition considering the disaster conditions, the results of the present study showed that logistics service was a vital activity for the duration of catastrophes.
