Abstract
Global financial crisis resulted from financial system in the US economy and spread to the world economy caused in significant negative effects on the economic growth, employment and macroeconomic balance of the countries. Turkish economy was significantly affected by the global financial crisis by contracting credits and trade channels as well. In this context, main aim of this study is to investigate the effects of the global financial crisis on the financial structure of banking sector in the Turkish economy. Main outcome of the study is that banking sector in the Turkish economy has successfully overcome the contractionary effects of the global financial crisis thanks to strong financial structure after the reconstruction in 2001. The profit rate in the banking sector was shaped by the net interest rate margin.
