UNITY WITHIN DIVERSITY: ALAWITE-BEKTASHI CULTURE AND THE CHALLANGE OF INSTRUMENTAL ENFRAMING

The dominant techno-economic processes in our day have a transformative effect over the peculiarities of cultures. As a result of such processes cultures have developed a conception in relation to a universal humanity. This universalism as a nihilistic orientation is based on the devaluation of values. Such form of conception, as an indicator of the break with the distinctive cultural practices, is indeed a global form of enframing to which culture is subjected. In this context, the dominant techno-economic-political processes lead to an instrumental transformation and enframing for the basic values of the Alawite-Bektashi culture. In Alawite-Bektashi history, this worldview found expression on an aesthetic level through the work of art rather than being a doctrinarian and philosophical system. In our survey, the basic problematic is about the conception and approach of the Alawite-Bektashi history in relation to these issues: the meanings of reason and knowledge, how social life is conceived, how the basic forms of coexistence of men is seen, the attitude and approach toward differences, how the relation between individual and society is evaluated, how the issues of belief and sacredness are viewed. These issues are interpreted in terms of power and instrumental enframing that is the dominant contemporary process. In this context, the problems with which the distinctive values of Alawi-Bektashism encounter are emphasized.
