Abstract :
Haci Bektash Veli is one of the leading personalities of Turkish Sufism. The Bektashism, of which he is the founder, is a belief system that was systematized around the ideas and thoughts he set forth. Bektashism, which is defined with the features such as a positive stance for human nature, having a strong and rich literature, giving prominence to tolerance and humor in relations, has left an important impression on social life and institutions. In this study, the basic knowledge and attitude levels of teachers, who are among the most significant transmitters of the national culture, about Haci BektashVeli and Bektashism have been investigated. The study has been carried out with 245 teacher candidates (female=162, male=83), who have graduated from faculty of education but have not been appointed as teacher yet. The data have been collected with control list and analyzed with descriptive statistical techniques. The results obtained from the study show that the basic knowledge levels of teacher candidates about Haci BektashVeli and Bektashism are limited. The revealed results show that teacher candidates have read very few numbers of resources giving information about Haci Bektash Veli. It has been determined that teacher candidates are generally much more aware of the themes of Bektashism such as human relations, humor and tolerance. These results obtained from the study have been discussed in comparison with similar studies.
