Abstract :
After the slaughter of Hussein at Karbala,a number of rebel movements occurred with the aim of taking his revenge. One of them is Mukhtar al-Thaqafi movement. As it is known, following Yazid s death, the Umayyad state was on the verge of collapse and had lost all territories except for the Damascus area. Therefore,Mukhtar b. Abi Ubayd al-Thaqafi benefited from this environment and began operations in Kufa. At that time,Kufa was under the domination of Abdullah b. Zubair government,Mecca-centered. Mukhtar, being able to gather a large mass of adherents in a short time in the area, revolted in October in 685,accompanied by the slogan of Hussein s revenge. Then,he conquered all parts of Iraq, except for Basra. Mukhtar claimed that he carried out his activities in the region on behalf of Muhammad ibn al-Hanafiya,Ali s son, whose mother is not Fatima. Muhammad ibn al-Hanafiya was the son of Ali b. Abi Tâlib and Khawlah bint Ja far al-Hanafiya,who came from Banu Hanifa tribe. He was famous for his nickname ̄bn al-Hanafiya rather than his mother. He lived in an era whose events have been effective up to now. For that reason, determining how he reacted to the events occurred at that time will be significant for a better understanding of the aforementioned era. In the article, the attitude of Muhammad b. Ali b. Abi Tâlib, known as Ibn al- Hanafiya, towards Mukhtar and his movement will be discussed. Thereby, the accurateness of this claim will be dealt.
