Abstract :
Koca Ragip Pasha is one of the most important statesmen of the 18th century and also an important poet and writer. His real name is Mehmed and he used the penname Ragib in his poems. He has a Divan and a Munseat and the seven prose works too,which he wrote on various sebjects. Thanks to his outstanding achievements in government jobs,he attracted the attention of Mahmud I. and he was assigned in the first negotiations in 1736 on the adoption of the Ja fari sect by the Ottoman Empire. He wrote these negotiations held in 1736 in his book named Tahkik ve Tevfik on the orders of Mahmud I. Negotiations on Ja fari sect continued in the next years,mutual delegations were sent but agreement could not be achieved. Ragip Pasha wrote two telhis and one name-i humayun and one letter of grandvezir about discussion in Ja fari sect. In this article,transcribed text of this letters of Ragip Pasha that are in the Munseat of Ragip Pasha has been given and analysed. According to the analysis,Ja fari sect issue and the letters he wrote on the subject were regarded to reveal the possibility that Nadir Shah wanted to use them as a military tactic to gain time against the Ottoman Empire and the conquests he wanted to do.
