Abstract :
In the middle ages, one of the first places where akhism, which was widespread from Central Asia to Balkans inhabited by Turks and had a vital role in Turkism as well as islamisation occurred, was formed is considered to be Azerbaijan. Since the 10th century akhis such as Abu- Bakr Huseyn-ibn-Ali ibn-Yazdanyar Urmavi (death 944), Akhi Farac Zencani (death 1065) and others living and acting in Azerbaijan have proved the fact that akhism was widespread in these areas. Moreover, Azeri Turks have a great role in spreading akhism ideology in Turkish Anatolia and turning it into an excellent organization. The so-called Akhi Evren who spread and popularized it in Asia Minor by systematizing akhism ideas and creating akhi-brotherhood was exactly Sheikh Mahmud Khoylu from Khoi city of Azerbaijan. On the other hand, Akhism could preserve its reputation as well as existence in Azerbaijan after it had become and turned into a strong and central organization in Asia Minor. It is know that having the lodges of XIV-XVI centenaries belonging to akhis who kept the existence in historical places of Azerbaijan (Akhi Nurullah lodge in the Kurdehani village of Baku, Akhi Tavakkul lodge in the Alayaz village of Armenia and etc), tombs (Comard Qassab tomb in Ganja), epigraphic monuments (the engraved epigraph of south gate of Baku castle in the month of Rajab in 1384), people who have a great role in social and political life of Azerbaijan and consider themselves as Akhi (the sheikh of the Sect of Khalvatiya Akhi Muhammad, Akhi Yusif, Sheikh Izaddin, sheikh Sadraddin, among Safavid adherents Akhi Hanifa, Akhi Hasan) and others member of this organization. The leader of the revolt against Timurid in Tabriz was Akhi Qessab, and one of the authoritative emirs in Ag Qoyunlu palace was Akhi-Farac-ibn Ali. One of the commanders of Shah Ismail was Akhi Soltan Tekali) also proves it.
