Abstract :
Velayetnamas are literary works that tell us a veli’s [a kind of abstinent and ascendent dervish] life, oracles, miracles and mystic activities such as menakıpnamas. A menkıbe literature was developed with Arabic, Persian and Turkish menakıpnamas since 11th century, after that in Turkish literature a lot of menakıpnamas were written in verse or prose for mystic leaders as Hacım Sultan, Hacı Bektaş-ı Veli, Kaygusuz Abdal, Abdal Musa, Otman Baba, Sultan Şucauddin Baba, Demir Baba, Ahmed Yesevi, Mevlana, Yunus Emre. Nihânî wrote a velayetnama in verse due to the request and insistence of Feyzullah Efendi who was in charge of Hacı Bektaş-ı Veli Dergâh (a building where all of the dervishes got together and prayed). The Word archaic means “ancient” and may refer to a period of time preceding a “classical period”. In this work, Ali Nihani b. Mehmed Tevfîk Yozgadi’s work called “Velayetnama Hacı Bektaş Velî” that was written in 1296 (1878) will be the archaic elements will be considered.
