The Effect of Silica Fume on Pumice Aggregate Lightweight Concrete

Abstract
In this study, the effect of silica fume which was substituted instead of cement by weight in particular rates, on fresh concrete slump and compressive strength of pumice aggregate concrete have been investigated. For this purpose silica fume obtained from Antalya Eti Electrometallurgy plant used through % 0 (reference) - 5% -10% – 15% and 20% rates instead of cement in pumice aggregate concrete. Fresh concrete slump, hardened concrete compressive strength and ultrasonic pulse velocity tests were performed on produced pumice aggregate concretes. According to the obtained test results, substitution of silica fume were adversely affects the workability of concrete by reducing the values of slump. Compressive strength of the prepared concrete was increased up to % 15 substitution rates. Furthermore there was no significant relationship between substitution of silica fume and ultrasonic pulse velocity values.
