Abstract :
The aim of this study is to research effects of boron participation rate on physical properties of particleboard, and correlations between boron participation rate and physical properties. In the study, following materials were utilized for production: wood particles mixture of 30.0% latifolius (Populus nigra L.) and 70.0% coniferous (Pinus brutia Ten., Pinus nigra Arn.), Cedrus libani Ait.), ureaformaldehyde (65.0%), hardener (33.0%, ammonium cloride), borax (5.0%), boric acide (5.0%), borax+boric acide (2.5+2.5%), tanalith–CBC (10.0%), tanalith–CBC+borax+boric acide (5.0+2.5+2.5%). The wood particles were treated with boron solutions in glueing machine before adhering operation. After particleboards were manufactured by pressing at temperature–150°C and pressure–26.5kp/cm^2 for 6 minutes, physical properties (specific gravity, water absorption, thickness swelling) of particleboards were tested. Data were analyzed by SPSS statistical programme in computer. Consequently, except for boric acide+borax, participation rates of other boron substances affected significantly specific gravity of particleboard. While both boron participation rate and soaking time in water created a significant impact on water absorption and thickness swelling of particleboard, interaction between boron participation rate and soaking time in water didn’t make a significant impact. Moreover, specific gravity improved and water absorption and thickness swelling deteriorated with increase of boron participation rate in total particleboard materials.
