Abstract :
Responses to Boron (B) toxicity of two different wheat genotypes (Triticum aestivum L. cv. Kıraç 66 and Triticum durum L. cv. Kunduru 1149) were studied in this study. The seedlings which were cultivated for 6 weeks in greenhouse conditions were harvested from the surface of soil. B applications to the seedlings were carried out in the concentrations of 0 (Control), 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50 mg/kg B by adding to soil. At the end of the study, it was determined that that the lenght of seedlings decreased whereas, B concentration increased. But, percent dry matter and relative water content didn’t show any considerable changes. Free proline amount increased in Kıraç 66 and Kunduru 1149. Glucose amount in Kıraç 66 increased at 10, 30, 50 mg/kg B concentrations. In Kunduru 1149, glucose amount increased at 20 mg/kg B concentration whereas it decreased at 40 and 50 mg/kg B concentrations. Fructose amount increased at 10, 20, 30, 40 mg/kg B concentrations in Kıraç 66 and 20 mg/kg B concentrations in Kunduru 1149. The results indicate that there are considerable differences between the 2 genotypes in terms of tolerance to B toxicity.
