  • Abstract
In this study, the role of salicylic acid (SA) in removing stress caused by cadmium in tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill.) plants were exposed to different cadmium concentrations, based on the analysis of proline, starch, glucose, fructose, chlorophyll a and b are investigated. 6-7 leafed seedlings (approximately two months) were exposed to 40, 100, 200 μM CdCl2 and applications given together of 0.5mM SA with this Cd concentrations for third days at 48 h intervals. The results of the present study showed that the physiological status of tomato was affected by CdCl2 and CdCl2+ 0.5 mM SA exposure. An increase in amount of proline and starch were identified at first day of all applications (P 0.05). The greatest prolin, starch, chlorophyll a and b in 100μM CdCl2 + 0.5 mM SA treatment were detected (P 0.05). When compared to control, the amount of proline decreased by only 40μM CdCl2 + 0.5 mM SA ve 100μM CdCl2 + 0.5 mM SA treatments, on the third day following the application (P 0.05). However, when compared to control, a reduction in the amount of starch and chlorophyll a and b have been identified in all applications (P 0.05).
