Abstract :
Basin of Köyceğiz-Dalyan is the first area which has been declared as Special Environmental Protection Area (ÖÇKB) because of its natural-cultural assets and values in 1988. The Region has an importance in the international scale with containing The Lake Köyceğiz, Dalyan Channels, Dalyan Lagoon and the shoreline of Iztuzu. But, the shorelines in the Region have not yet been detected accurately up to now. This case causes the problems in the shoreline usages and makes pressures on the coastal areas. In this study, the shorelines are detected using remote sensing and GIS techniques according to Coastal Law no. 3621 and the Regulation on the Implementation of the Coastal Law on the Lake Köyceğiz and Dalyan Channels. For the shoreline and edge line detection, the base soil maps, orthophotos and up-to-date satellite images are georeferenced, the respective maps are co-registered, and compared to the field control measurements. As a conclusion, the Law statement ‘detection of the shoreline is obligatory in the coastal zone is not practiced in the region of The Lake Köyceğiz, Dalyan Channels, Dalyan Lagoon and the shoreline of Iztuzu which are the open areas for everyone’s use. From the analyses, it is observed that there are usages which are contradictory to the shoreline legislations. It is aimed that the study would be decisive in the planning of Region with detection of shorelines and shore edge lines using remote sensing and GIS techniques.
