Abstract :
In this study, microcapsules containing n‐hexadecane were prepared using complex coacervation method which is a physicochemical method. In this method, polymer‐rich wall formation around the core material is realized using the polycation and the polyanion polymers as a result of complex formation due to pH changes. The most important point in this method is the adjustment of pH to the value that polymers are positive or negative charged. Microcapsule complex wall structure formed is then stabilized by the addition of crosslinking agent. In this study, chitosan (CH) as polycation polymer and poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) as polyanion polymer were used to form microcapsules wall structure. In the study, surface active materials having different HLB value such as Span 20(8,6), Tween 20(16,7) Tween 40(15,6) and Tween 80(15,0), respectively were used as emulsifier. The wall material ratio of the microcapsules was determined as 0.5:1 while their wall/core ratio was chosen as 1:1.5. The particle size and size distribution by particle sizer (PSD), morphology by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), chemical structure by FT‐IR spectroscopy, and heat storage and releasing properties of the prepared microcapsules by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) were determined.
