Neighbourhood Action Plan as a Tool for Reduction Spatial Segregation in Urban Renewal: The Case of Konya – Doğanlar Neighbourhood
Abstract :
Neighborhoods, inhabited by Gypsy citizens who are the disadvantaged groups in society and exposed to multidimensional exclusions, are seen most urban spaces of the spatial segregation. In particular, Gypsy neighborhoods which are located in center of the living city, are seen dangerous as the center of the crime and poor physical environment, are among the first areas which considered the realization of urban renewal projects by local governments. In this article, for example Doğanlar Neighborhood based on Gypsies’s multi-dimensional social exclusion and spatial segregation problems, the development of proposals on the process of more successful and sustainable urban renewal projects and neighborhood action plan is aimed. In this study, using qualitative and quantitative research methods and techniques, Gypsies’s demographic and social structure, economic status and the neighborhood’s physical properties were analyzed and developed recommendations.
