Abstract :
This study investigates settling characteristics of the samples taken fromthe thickener feed of Dereköy Coal Preparation Plant (Soma, Manisa) using anionic(Akkim Akua 5220, Brentag Brentamer A 2030, Brentag Brentamer A 2530, BiflocAn 254, Minefloc Lot X 4119, 3F Sedifloc 750 AHM), cationic (Snf 5980 Sl, 3fSedifloc 408 C) and non‐ionic (Snf Fa 920) flocculants. Flocculation tests werecarried out at jar test apparatus with six mixing paddles. In the settlingexperiments, the effects of flocculant type and dosage on flocculation of the finetailings of coal preparation operation were determined. The settling rate andturbidity values were considered as the flocculation performance criteria. It isshown that the anionic flocculants were more effective especially at low flocculantdosages. Minefloc Lot X 4119 anionic polymer showed a better flocculationperformance compared to other flocculants from the point of the settling rate and turbidity.
