The Relationship Between Tourism Revenues and Economic Growth in Turkey: ARDL Bound Test Approach
Abstract :
The aim of this study is to examine the relationship among tourism revenues, international tourist arrivals and economic growth in Turkey. In this context, we examined over the period of 1980-2014 based on annual data. We applied the Pesaran et al. (2001) ARDL bounds testing and estimation of long run cointegration coefficients. According to the both long and short run estimation results, tourism revenues have a significant impact on economic growth. As expected, short run error correction coefficient is negative and statistically significant. Therefore, analysis results show that tourism revenues have a positive effect on economic growth. In the light of these findings, we have offered various policy recommendations
