Abstract :
In this study, it was aimed to develop a valid and reliable assessment instrument in order to determine geometry skill levels of the children in 5-7 age groups. The sample of this study, which is designed in a quantitative research scope and in line with survey model, consists of 5-7-year-old children (351 female, 403 male) attending pre-school institutions and first grades of primary schools in Anatolian side of Istanbul province. The research data was collected via Personal Information Form developed by the researcher and Early Geometry Skill Test. The data collected via Frostig Visual Perception Test and Early Numeracy Test Form A was used for criteria validity of Early Geometry Skill Test. As the results of analyses, Content Validity Index of EGST” was found to be .65, and KR20 coefficient was .853. Test items are homogeneous, associated with each other and the test is additive. Pearson s correlation coefficient between the two halves is .697. Finally, the test results of the test-retest are .898 for Pearson s correlation coefficient. As a result of these findings, a valid and reliable test consisting of 42 items was obtained.
