Abstract :
The purpose of this study is to provide training on scientific research methods and project preparation process to primary and secondary school teachers and to ensure these teachers to develop positive attitudes about scientific research and project competitions. This study was conducted by using the pretest and posttest model, which is a pre-experimental research models. As a tool for data collection in this study, Tortop’s (2013a) Project Competitions Teacher Attitude Scale along with the Scientific Research Attitude Scale developed by Korkmaz, Şahin and Yeşil (2011) adapted to 378 teachers by Akçöltekin (2018) were used. 185 teachers, who have been working in different branches in elementary and secondary schools within the area of Ardahan National Education Directorate, constituted the implementation group of the research. After 8 hours of practice, it was determined that there was a significant difference in the attitudes of the teachers towards both the scientific researches and the project competitions in favour of the post-test scores (p 0.05). As the result of the study, it was concluded that; in addition to the general attitudes of the teachers towards the project competitions, their attitudes towards the evaluations of the projects and their attitudes towards attending the project competitions as mentors have been developed positively; and it was also concluded that the project competitions are important for student development, they are an important element of the education and training activities, and they change the negative student behaviours into positive. When the changes in attitudes of teachers towards project competitions according to their gender and educational status were examined, it was concluded that the female teachers and the teachers having masters-level education developed positive attitudes towards participating project competitions as mentors and they think that these competitions will change students negative behaviours into positive. In addition, as the teachers attitudes towards scientific research have changed positively, it was concluded that the teachers have developed a more positive attitude towards researchers and scientific research. When the changes in the teachers attitudes towards scientific researches according to gender and education levels are examined; after the practice, it was found that female teachers have developed a more positive attitude towards scientific researches than male teachers. Additionally, although the teachers with bachelor s degree in education have a more negative attitude towards scientific researches than teachers with master s degree before the practice, it was observed that the teachers with bachelor s degree also developed positive attitudes after the implementation of the training.
