Abstract :
Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of two different dentifrices and mouthrinses on oral hygien. Material andMethod: Atotal of 80 patients with chronic gingivitis were included in this study after recording the clinical indices. Patients were divided into 4 groups including 20 subjects. In the first group they brushed their teeth with a toothpaste (X1) containing sodium bicarbonate and herbal components, the second group brushed their teeth only with a toothpaste (X2) containing sodium florid and triclosan, the third group brushed their teeth with X1 and rinsed their mouth for a minute by chlorhexidine gluconate and benzydamine hydrochloride, and the fourth group brushed their teeth with X2 and also rinsed their mouth for a minute by chlorhexidine gluconate and benzydamine hydrochloride. Plaque index, gingival index, gingival bleeding index were recorded at the begining of study and after day 30 and statistically evaluated. Results: There was no difference between the effects of dentifrice and dentifrice + antiplaque agent on oral health (p 0.05). Conclusion: As a result it was found that the oral hygien can increase to the optimal level by mechanical cleaning however using additional antiplaque rinse have not any significant effect.
