Abstract :
Objective: The purpose of this in vitro current study was to investigate the cytotoxic effect of two indirect composite materials. Material and Method: Artglass and Solidex indirect composite materials were used in this study. Disk shaped specimens (10 mm diameter, 1mm thick) were polymerized using the dentacolor XS light source (Kulzer, Germany). 25 specimens were fabricated for each indirect composite material. Specimens (Artglass n=25, Solidex n=25) were aged for 1h, 24 h, 72 h, 1, 2 weeks in DMEM/F12.After aged, cytotoxicity of their extracts in cultured fibroblasts (L929) was measured by MTT assay. The degree of cytotoxicity for each specimen was determined according to the reference value represented by the cells with a pure culture medium. Student’s t Test was used to the determine whether or not distribution of living cell percentage measurements were normal. Results: Both indirect composite materials have shown different degree of cytotoxicity in experimental times. At 24 h period significantly statistical differences have found between Artglass and Solidex (p=0.023). At 72 h period, Artglass was found more cytotoxic than Solidex, however it is not statistically significant. Conclusion: Ceromer based indirect composites, Artglass and Solidex, have some cytotoxic effects on L-929 mouse fibroblast cell cultures in five experimental periods.
