Abstract :
Objective: Dilaceration refers is a deviation or bend in the linear relationship of a crown of tooth to its root. Its diagnosis is important because it can be cause problems during the endodontic, orthodontic treatments and teeth extractions. The radiographic assessment is necessary in detection of root angulations. In this study, it was aimed to identify whether there was a difference between panoramic and periapical radiographic assessments in determination of mesio-distal dilacerations. Material and Method:Mesio-distal angulations of 100 roots of mandibular third molars were assessed. Two observers measured the angulations on digital periapical and panoramic radiographs belong to same patient two times. Results: No significant difference was found between the repeated measurements of each observers on periapical and panoramic radiographs (p 0.05). There was no significant difference between the periapical radiographic assessments of two observers (p 0.05). It was identified a significant difference among the measurements of two observers on panoramic radiograph (p 0.05). Conclusion: In the limitations of present study, the periapical and panoramic radiographic measurements have consistency in determination of mesio-distal dilaceration. It was kept in mind that the observer training may effect the assessment of panoramic radiographs.
