An Overview of Gene Expression Analysis Methods
Abstract :
The biological and pathophysiological conditions in several tissues or cell lines cause qualitative and quantitative differences in gene expression. There are several approaches and techniques used in gene expression analysis. These techniques include sequencing-based, PCR-based, hybridization- based and combined techniques. Recent technological developments in large-scale expression analysis have made it possible to rapidly assess many genes for their transcriptional responses in biological and pathological events. Subtractive hybridization library (SHL) technique among comparative gene expression analysis is one of the powerful approaches for identifying and isolating genes that are differentially expressed in defined tissues or cell lines. However, each technique has various strengths and weaknesses for determination of differentially expressed genes. Finally, the gene expression analysis techniques and the comparison of these techniques with each other is the topic of this review.
