Abstract :
Cardiovascular diseases are one of the most important public healthy problems of our population and mostly atherosclerosis is the underlying mechanism in this disease. Atherosclerosis is a multifactorial and genetic based disease and characterized with the increase of vascular wall thickness and loss of elasticity. Atherosclerosis is one of the leading causes of death around the world and also a pathophysiological process that causes more than one disease. Several metabolic, inflammatory, infectious or hemodynamic factors are involved in the development of atherosclerosis and in the formation and activation of plaque. Although it has pathophysiologic and etiologic complexity, atherosclerosis is an evitable disease. Thus, identification of the underlying developmental mechanisms is very crucial. Therefore, it is important to identify new candidate genes for these diseases and then- treatment. Within such group of genes, there are RORa target genes, as well. Because of it’s ability to act on cholesterol, coagulation and inflammatory response through the liver, RORoc is supposed to play crucial role in the development of atherosclerosis. In this review, our aim is to approach the involvement of the candidate genes in the molecular pathogenesis of atherosclerosis.
