  • Abstract
Occult hepatitis B infection (OBI) defines to the long-term persistence of HBV DNA in the liver (with detectable or undetectable HBV DNA in the serum) of individuals testing hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) negative by currently available assays. OBİ infection has been hypothesized to be a significant risk factor contribution to the progression of chronic liver diseases with increased risk for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) with may lead to an increased progression of liver diseases. OBI can be considered as the possible a phase in the natural history of chronic HBV infection that the host’s immune surveillance and epigenetic mechanisms are likely involved nevertheless, the mechanisms leading to its occurrence remain relatively poorly understood. The purpose of this review is examine to scientific literature about which is related molecular mechanisms of OBİ
