Neuro-Behçet disease: Coexistence of transverse myelitis and aseptic meningitis
Abstract :
Behçet’s disease is a disorder that the etiology and pathogenesis is not well known and this episodic disease is characterized with recurrent oral and genital ulcers, panuveitis. The incidence of Behçet’s disease increased in Mediterranean region, Middle East region, East Asian region, some part of Japan. The prevalence of this disease was 110/100000 in Turkey. If a neurological symptom is added to Behçet’s disease it is called Neuro-Behçet syndrome. The most seen neurological complication of Neu-ro-Behçet syndrome is headache. In Behçet’s syndrome if the neurological symptoms are not completely occur, to diagnose neuro-Behçet may be very difficult. However, sometimes neurological complications can be progress very fast. Especially the formation of transverse myelitis is very rare neurologic condition for this syndrome. Here we presented a 17-year-old girl with Behçet’s disease; she admitted for her headache and confusion, in lumbar puncture findings we considered aseptic meningitis. 1 day later she complained paraparesis and hypoesthesia under thoracal 5 level, MRI scanning showed transverse myelitis in almost all thoracic levels. We presented this case because coexistence of transverse myelitis and aseptic meningitis is very rare.
