Title Of Article :
Monitoring Forest Disturbance and Recovery of Muğla Province Between 2000-2010 with Landsat Imagery
Abstract :
The changes in forest cover arising from disturbance and post-disturbance recovery process plays an important role for sustainable forest management. Aforementioned changes gain more importance since the forest itself is considered as an above ground biomass source. In this study, the disturbance and recovery processes of forest areas in Mugla province between the years 2000 -2010 were detected by Landsat imagery and LEDAPS Disturbance Index (DI) algorithm. The validation of results were done by field works and 90% overall accuracy achieved with 32 observation points for our resulting map. Our comparison with various high resolution data also proved that the DI algorithm can be effectively used to detect forest disturbance and recovery processes. In the 10 year period 18.410 ha. area has been disturbed while 18.239 ha. has been recovered.
