THE EFFECT OF TASK-PEOPLE ORIENTED LEADERSHIP PERCEPTION ON PROSOCIAL SERVICE BEHAVIORS TOWARDS CITIZENS: A STUDY ON LAW ENFORCEMENT
Abstract :
The aim of the research is to determine whether task / human-oriented leadership perception of law enforce-ment has effect on prosocial service behaviours exhibited to citizens. In this research in which field method was used, survey was administered to 166 law enforcement personnel (police gendarmerie). In addition, the interviews were carried out with 4 law enforcement chiefs. The data obtained from the field research sub-jected to explanatory factor, correlation and regression analysis. According to the findings research; it has been observed that task-oriented and people-oriented leadership perceptions have positive and significant effect on extra role, service and cooperation behaviours. However, it has been also observed that task-oriented leadership style has more positive effect on prosocial behaviours compared to people-oriented leadership style. As a result; if chiefs of law enforcement providing security services are task-oriented, in-role and extra role prosocial service behaviours increase.
