Abstract :
Motivational interviewing has gained a lot of attention in recent years as a guiding and client- centered method to increase the intrinsic motivation for change by researching and solving the ambience (want-not-want dilemma). This method has been widely used in areas where behavior change is important. A lot of research has been done on its effectiveness and has been found to be an effective method. It was first used by Miller as an effective method in the treatment of alcohol and substance addiction. Miller defined motivation as being ready for change rather than a personality trait. In this regard, the lack of motivation or resistance to change is seen as something that can be changed, not as something within the client. In recent years, motivational interviewing has not only been limited to the field of addiction, but studies have been carried out in order to increase or reinforce health behaviors in different areas such as obesity, chronic pain, diabetes, diet, and accident prevention. The main purpose of this article is to introduce motivational interview as a method with proven effectiveness, easy to apply and learn, and to present a method that will accelerate the change of clients in the field of application, where evidence-based approaches come to the fore.
