The Effect of PbO Additive to Grain Growth Kinetics of TiO2-BaO Based Ceramics

Abstract :
In the present study, the effect of PbO on grain growth kinetics of the barium titanate based ceramic materials has been investigated depending on sintering temperature and time. For this purpose, the powder mixtures consisting of BaCO3, TiO2 and PbO were prepared by ball milling technique in deionised water using ZrO2 balls at 200 devir/dk for 20 h. The prepared powders were calcined at 800°C for 2 h. Produced powders were mixed 5%polyvinylalcohol (PVA) and pressed as green body under the pressure of 300 MPa and sintered at 1150, 1200 ve 1250°C for 2 h. X-ray diffraction analysis showed that the main phases formed in the sintered samples are BaTiO3 and Ba0.8Pb0.2TiO3. Atomic force microscope (AFM) images were used for examinations of grain structure and size of the sintered samples. Grain growth kinetic equation G^n=K.t.exp(-Q/RT) was used for determining of the activation energy of the TiO2-BaO-PbO based ceramic materials.
