Title Of Article :
Wear Behavior of Cr-Al-N Coated AISI D2 Steel by Thermo Reactive Diffusion Technique
Abstract :
In this work, the wear test of uncoated, nitrided, chromium aluminum nitride coated AISI D2 cold work tool steel against silicon nitride ball realized at 0.1 m/s sliding speeds and under the loads of 2.5N, 5N and 10N.Steel samples were nitrided at 575 °C for 8 h in the first step of the coating process, and then chromium aluminum nitride coating was performed thermo-reactive deposition technique (TRD) in a powder mixture consisting of ferro-chromium, aluminum, ammonium chloride, alumina and naphthalene at 1000°C for 2 h. Nitro-chromized samples were characterized by X-Ray diffraction analysis (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), micro-hardness and ball on disk wear tests. The coating layer formed on the AISI D2 steel was compact and homogeneous. The depth of the layer was 11,8±1,3 m. The average hardness of the layer was 2067±160 HV0.01. The coefficient of friction of nitro-chromized layer of AISI D2 steel against silicon nitride ball was changing between 0.153 and 0.446, and wear rate of the coating layer ranged from 1.59x10^-4 mm^3/m and 6.07x10^-4 mm^3/m depending on applied load and sliding speeds. Sliding speeds of steels with chromium aluminum nitride coating process 2-4 times decreased.
