Abstract
Cermets are widely used in cutting tool industry. Commercial brands are also usable under different patents. In this study, the effect of 3Y-TZP reinforcements on the sintering behaviors and mechanical properties of Cr3C2-Ni(Cr) cermets were investigated. Sintering kinetics were studied by sintering at three different temperatures and formed phases were evaluated by XRD and SEM analysis. To investigate the effect of reinforcement on the mechanical properties, the elastic modulus, hardness and fracture toughness experiments were carried out. 1300°C was found as sintering temperature from sintering kinetic studies. Elastic modulus, hardness and fracture toughness values were found as 307 GPa, 10.5 GPa and 12.1 MPa.√m, respectively.
