Abstract :
Thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) are used in stationary and dynamic parts of gas turbines in order to protect main component from detrimental effect of hot gases and increasing thermal efficiency of system. A TBC system is typically consist of, a suitable substrate material, a ceramic top coat providing thermal insulation, a metallic bond coat protecting the substrate material against to oxidation and preventing thermal mismatch between the substrate and top-coat and, an oxide layer that starts with the coating process going on with growing under service conditions. In this study, yitriya stabilized zirconia (8YSZ; ZrO2-8Y2O3) topcoat deposited with APS (Atmospheric Plasma Spray) technique and NiCrAlY bond coat were deposited with HVOF (High Velocity Oxy-Fuel) technique. Microstructural properties, porosity rates and microhardness measurements of TBC system were conducted by using scanning electron microscope (SEM), microstructure analysis software and microhardness test equipment, respectively.
