Title Of Article :
Influence of Ulexite on the Synthesis ZrO2/Mullite Composite from Zircon and Kaolin Mixture
Abstract :
In this study, zirconia/mullite composite was synthesized by reaction sintering route from zircon, clay, alumina and ulexite mixtures. Mixtures were sintered at 1450, 1500 and 1550 °C for 5 hrs. On the sintered samples, the phase evolution, densification and microstructural investigations were examined. XRD analysis showed that zircon completely dissociated at 1450°C and appeared monoclinic and tetragonal zirconia phases together with mullite phase. According to the SEM images, microstructures consisted of a mullite matrix with homogeneously distrubuted zirconia grains. The presence of ulexite in the mixture leads to both decrease synthesis temperature and improve densification of composite.
