Title Of Article :
Hydrogeological and Hydrogeochemical Assesment of Çöl (Haydarlı/Afyon) Plain)
Abstract :
The Çöl (Haydarlı/Afyon) plain which is located in the southwest of Turkey have 1505 km^2 watershed area. Anamas-Akseki autochtonous and units belonging to allochthonous Beyşehir-Hoyran-Hadim nappes and cover rocks units are outcropped in the investigation area. The most important aquifer is Quaternary aged alluvium. General groundwater flow direction is towards to south of the plain. In the Çöl plain, it has been excessive drawing of groundwater owing to the agricultural activity. In order to find out the hydrogeochemical features, surface and groundwater samples taken from representative locations in the Çöl plain were analyzed for the hydrogeochemical features. Groundwaters have determined the Ca-HCO3 facies in plain. Groundwaters are suitable for usage as irrigation water in the plain. Agricultural activity is most important pollution in the plain. Nitrate content is increased because of agricultural activity in the research area. Besides, heavy metal contents of groundwater such as Al, As, Cr, Cu, Fe, Mn and Pb were also researched. Al, As, Fe and Mn concentrations of groundwater have exceed the maximum allowable limits of drinking water standards as locally. These increases originated from geogenic and antropogenic factors. The isotope contents of groundwaters were determined to the genetic evaluation. Heavy isotope contents of groundwaters are represented meteoric origin.
