An Investigation of Radiation Absorption Properties of Barite Aggregate Concrete

Abstract
In this study, it was investigated that the absorption characteristic of heavy concrete produced from barite aggregate and the effect of radiation shielding of concrete. Radiation and radiation shielding are the important issues of concrete component. For this purpose, it can be developed absorption properties of concrete with use of heavy concrete in places of exposure to radiation. İn this study, barite aggregate concrete produced from using three different particle size aggregates while 5‐22 mm coarse aggregate kept constant and 0‐5 mm fine aggregate replaced with stone flour. It was used süper plasticizer for purpose of workability in the selected mixtures wich binder ratio 270 kg/m3 and water/binder ratio 0.46 and 0.50. It was investigated of concrete propeties making with radiation absorption coefficient, bulk density, compressive strength, ultrasound pulse velocity experiments on produced samples. According to the obtained results, it was observed that increasing the bulk density value while decrease of the amount of stone flour as the same behaviour was observed in radiation absorption coefficient. Compressive strength value of barite aggregate concrete was found the desired value.
