A Research on Calcium Oxalate (CaOx) Crystals in the Leaves of Tradescantia pallida at Different Growth Stage
Abstract :
Among the calcium salts, calcium oxalate (CaOx) crystals are especially common in angiosperm andgymnosperm. The crystal shape and density vary from each other. Also, The crystal size is extremely variable. It is partially correlate with the cell type which they were occurred, Ca content, and other environmental factors. The size of calcium oxalate crystals in the plants varies depending on the developmental periods. Depending upon growing, it was observed that the crystal size has changed and the different crystal types have occured in T. pallida. In this study, the sections taken from young and mature leaves of T. pallida were examined under a light microscope in terms of crystal morphology, size and density, and the differences were identified.
