Synthesis of Al-MCM-41 Type Mesoporous Catalyst by Hydrothermal and Sonochemical Methods and Its Catalytic Application

Abstract
In the scope of this study, MCM-41 type mesoporous catalysts supported by aluminum were synthesized using two different methods, namely, hydrothermal and sonochemical methods. All synthesized catalysts were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersion spectroscopy (EDS) and Brunauer Emmett Teller (BET) methods. The effects of the different synthesis methods on the physical properties of catalysts were determined by investigating the characterization results. According to the obtained results, the catalysts synthesized by sonochemical methods were found to have regular crystalline structures, high BET surface areas and pore size distributions in the mesopore range. It was aimed to increase the catalytic activity by modification of the silica structure using aluminum metal since the MCM-41 catalyst with a regular pore size distribution and high surface area did not have sufficient catalytic activity. For this purpose, the catalytic effect of the synthesized Al-MCM-41 on liquid yield was investigated using as a catalyst in the pyrolysis of waste mobile phone circuit boards.
