Title Of Article :
Removal of Dyestuff from Aqueous Solutions by Activated Carbon Prepared fom Pumpkin Seed Shell
Abstract :
In this study, the activated carbon was prepared from pumpkin seed shells by chemical activation(H3PO4) and the efficiency of the prepared activated carbon on the removal of Acid Blue 193 fromaqueous solution was investigated. The effects of the initial pH (1,42‐8,6), initial acid blue concentration (25‐250 mg/L), temperature (25, 35, 45 °C) and the adsorbent dosage were examined in adsorption studies. The initial pH of 1.42, temperature of 45 oC and the adsorbent dosage of 0.2 g were determined as the optimum adsorption parameters. The pseudo‐first‐order and the pseudo‐second‐order kinetic models were used to test the experimental data at 25 °C. The experimental data fitted the pseudo‐first order kinetic model. Adsorption isotherm study was carried out on Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models. The results indicate that Langmuir equation is well described with the adsorption data for acid blue 193 adsorption. The results show that the activated carbon from pumpkin seed shells can be effectively applied for the removal of Acid Blue 193 from aqueous solutions.
