Title Of Article :
The Effect of Expanded Perlite on the Vulcanization Characteristics and Mechanical Properties of Cold Vulcanizing Adhesives
Abstract :
In rubber industry, incorporation of various reinforcing fillers is a widespread procedure to enhance the properties of the material or save costs. In this study, expanded perlite was used as a new type of filler for cold vulcanizing adhesives. Perlite‐filled rubber blends were prepared using a laboratory sized tworoll mill. Influences of expanded perlite loading compared with commercial calcite were investigated on cure characteristics and mechanical properties, such as adhesive strength and hardness. The crosslink density was also determined in both samples by means of swelling in solvent. The addition of perlite as filler showed a decrease in scorch time (tS2) and cure time (t90), an increase in mechanical properties and crosslink density. The results show that expanded perlite can be used as filler in cold vulcanizing adhesive formulation.
