Abstract :
The title of the book defines itself only to a certain extent, for Dr. Mine Yazıcı (as her last name readily implies, yazıcı being a secretary or author) has not simply written a book exclusively for translators but composed a course-book discussing the main aspects of research in TS in a manner that one would easily describe as crucial for a wide range of readers, namely, scholars, instructors and students. As the writer herself points out in the preface, the main objective of the book is consciousness raising for the translator-to-be and defining the task of the professional translator by primarily distinguishing between linguistic competence and translatory competence. The preface is a brief preamble presenting the objectives and the function of the book but also a succinct socio-cultural and academic history of TS in Turkey.
