Abstract :
In the second issue of the IU Journal of Translation Studies, four diverse papers tackle the issues of literary translation, translation theory, and the issue of interlingual subtitling as a sub branch of audiovisual translation, which is a recently developing field in Iran. Three papers deal with the challenges encountered in literary translation and literary theory, especially in distant languages and cultures, and in explaining translation phenomena from the perspective of contemporary theoretical approaches in the field of Translation Studies. From this point of view they are interrelated with each other in terms of the subject they deal with. While the first paper discusses the potential and constraints of the Reception Theory as a literary theory from the perspective of contemporary theoretical approaches adopted in TS, the other two papers deal with the translation problems experienced in literary translation, which also prove the colourful nature of our geography. As for the last paper, it is on interlingual subtitling, which has gained momentum in Iran in spite of the long history of dubbing.
