TANIKLIKLARLA ÇEVİRİ VE CORTÁZAR
Abstract :
The aim of this article is to investigate the significance of self description in translation studies for the researcher and evaluate its strengths and weaknesses. The study observes the function of such data with reference to the autopoiesis of the system of translation and as a data bank for translation studies. The corpus of the study is the testimony of the translators to their Cortázar translations into Turkish and into English. The methodology of the study is a description of the introductions, memoirs, diaries, footnotes and similar texts produced by the translators. The description reveals the translation problems and the necessary decisions taken by the translators while transferring the works of a Latin American author into two very dissimilar cultures and languages, namely, Turkish and English. Thus the circumstances in which the translators work will be filtered and observation will be carried out as to the extent these constraints influence the behaviour of the translators. The contribution of self description to the formation of the translatory system and the system of translation studies will be thus assessed.
